The zebra lives in groups, a male with a few females. He likes the company of wildebeest and stays with them to protect himself from predators. The zebra can run at up to 60 km/h and has a lifespan of 25 to 30 years.

Despite several attempts to tame them, the results were not conclusive because they are too unpredictable, and they are shy by nature. Zebras are more resistant to hot climates, African diseases and are faster than horses.

Three species of zebras can generally be distinguished: the lowland zebras (Equus burchelli), including some subspecies such as the Böhm, Chapman, Burchell’s zebras; the mountain zebras (Equus zebra), represented by the Cape zebra and the Hartman zebra; the Grevy zebra (Equus grevyi) living in northern Kenya.

All these animals have a robust body, a thin head with erect ears, a striped brush mane and long limbs with a single hoof. Each animal has its specific stripes at the junction of the shoulder and upper leg, creating a unique identity card. Their size and weight vary from 1.30 meters at the withers and 300 kilograms for the Burchell’s zebra to 1.50 meters and 400 kilograms for the Grevy’s zebra. Their life expectancy is about thirty-five years.
